The Sydney Street & District Heat Network is an innovative urban project designed to decarbonise heating and cooling for 300 homes, a hospital, a school, a church, and various commercial spaces. Cagni Williams Energy played a pivotal role in shaping the project, leveraging our architectural and project management expertise to address technical and stakeholder challenges.

The system relies on over 140 deep boreholes beneath the public highway, connected via an ambient loop heat network. This pioneering solution allows multiple buildings to share renewable energy efficiently, drastically reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The project’s design supports a long-term vision for decarbonising the UK’s 25 million existing homes.

Our involvement extended beyond technical design to include stakeholder engagement and project coordination, ensuring the scheme’s feasibility and successful implementation. By integrating sustainability into every aspect, the Sydney Street & District Heat Network represents a scalable blueprint for future community-based heat networks.
