The project is a transformation of this large Edwardian terraced house into a modern, energy-efficient home. The project’s centrepiece is a striking Corten steel and glass gallery extension, replacing the old conservatory onto the garden. The extension’s innovative design balances functionality with aesthetics, using Corten steel for both vertical and roof structures, and reconnecting the garden to the house.
Through a refurbished Edwardian entrance, maintaining the traditional front living rooms, the hallway leads to a modern open space kitchen/dining room, with expressed steel structure and joist ceilings. A storage and technical wall unit runs along one side starting from the guest loo under the stairs.
The gallery roof extension wildflower green roof can be enjoyed from the refurbished first floor garden room leading onto a terrace.
The whole house is now powered by an air source heat pump in the garden, with underfloor heating throughout the new ground floor augmented by ventilation to avoid overheating and condensation in the gallery.
