Sustainable timber: design, construction and circularity

Laura was invited to present to the FORMA + TON event at the Czech Centre London on "Sustainable timber: design, construction and circularity" hosted by Lorenzo Pandolfi . She was part of a trio of speakers which was followed by a very engaging debate with the audience.

Laura Carrara-Cagni , Jakub Klaska and Paul Edwards presented different aspects of the use of timber in construction, its sustainability, suitability, circularity, and included caveats and words of advice.

Laura demonstrated our use of timber in energy efficient and climate friendly design, cutting down on use of additional cladding material, speeding up construction, reducing cost and time on site. It ages well if properly detailed, and we like to expose it to celebrate this beautiful material. It is easily repairable and modifiable and can be low maintenance.

Furthermore timber structure allows fast and dry construction, offsite prefabrication, less disruption to neighbours, minimal wet trades, and is a carbon sink, so you want as much timber used as possible!

The Czech Centre London was a perfect setting, thank you Alena Meckin , Zeno Ronchetti and Renata Clark for the impeccable team work and the sponsorship.
